Sim Cards for Au Pairs

We recommend ordering a sim card in advance from Smarty or Giff Gaff.

Banking & Proof of Address

There are a couple of online banks that au pairs are opting to use over normal high street banks as the application process is usually quicker and more straightforward.

Monzo and Revolut have been recommended to us by both families and au pairs, as their registration process is more straightforward compared to traditional banks who have added substantial acceptance requirements.

Registering with the GP, UK Healthcare & Au Pairs

The UK has a National Health Service. For au pairs travelling to the UK on a Tier 5 visa, NHS health surcharge is included within the visa cost. For other au pairs, we advise comprehensive travel/medical insurance.

One should register with the GP as soon as possible after arrival as registration is not always immediate, we recommend going to the doctor's surgery that the host family is registered with as this can help speed up the registration process.

Important Info/Documents - All Received OK?

Upon placement confirmation, each host family is provided with:

- a host family information pack (checklist for the first weeks, sample house rules & timetable etc)

Upon placement confirmation each au pair is provided with:

- Access to our au pair course

- excel listing of other au pairs by their location + info on any local au pair meeting groups (for ease of searching other au pair friends nearby)

- invite to any au pair events

- invite to join a local Whatsapp group (we have au pair groups by the area - but do need au pair prior permission to add them in, we recommend all au pairs join our London group + their Local group).

- access to aupairfriends.com website

If you are missing any of this information or if you are a family who would like to help their au pair to find friends, just let us know and we will do our best to help!

First Aid Courses

We recommend Babyem for first aid courses if you would like to enrol your au pair for a first aid course after arrival.

Car Insurance

Regretfully, there is no one company which would yield the best "quote". We advise all families to check the cost of insurance prior to appointing an au pair as we know that in most cases - insurance costs can be very high for young drivers.

If we were to name one, we'd advise looking into Admiral.

If you have any recommendations for the above, please do let our team know as our recommendations and advice are based on the feedback we receive from our families and au pairs.

Disclaimer: We are in no way affiliated with the above banks or insurance provider but simply recommend them based on the feedback from our current clients. If you are in anyway unsure as to whether a particular financial product is suitable for you or not, then you should always seek independent financial advice.
